I’m not a printmaker, can I apply?

Yes, this open call is especially conceived for artists who have little or no previous experience with etching. This way we want to involve and introduce the world of etching to artists whose daily practice is centered mostly on other disciplines than printmaking. Of course applications from consummate printmakers are welcome too.

I just completed an etching. Can I submit it?

We prefer if you submit a drawing but if you are an artist who prefers to draw directly onto the plate it’s ok to submit a proof of your etching. The only important thing is that the etching must not be previously editioned.

What format and size do I have to observe?

Any size, any format. The print will be from a plate around 15×25 cm

How does it work for the winner?

He or she will be sent a prepared plate with all the instructions to complete the job. Then the artist will return the plate to us to be editioned. The edition (printed in no less than 30 copies) will be then split between the artist and the printshop. However the artist may choose to create his/her plate during the residency time in Milan. Arrangements will be made directly with the selected artist.

Can an artist accept the prize and not the Residency offer?

We prefer the winning artist take all the benefits of the prize. However the Residency is an invitation an artist might not be able to accept, due to personal or logistic problems (which may occur for the present international situation for example when travelling is not easy).
