PigPrints welcomes printmakers at different stages of their practice, as well as artists working in other disciplines. We offer different residency options depending on your experience, your project and the level of technical support you need.

Do I need previous printmaking experience?

It depends on the type of residency. Independent Residency is intended for artists who are already comfortable working independently with the techniques and equipment they plan to use. Beginners and artists who would like more guidance can apply for an Assisted or Intensive Residency.

Which residency is right for me?

The Independent Residency is for experienced printmakers who want to work independently. The Assisted Residency is suitable for artists who want to learn or refresh their printmaking skills, while the Intensive Residency offers closer technical support throughout the development of a project. If you are unsure which residency option best suits your experience or needs, get in touch with us. We will be happy to discuss your project and recommend the most appropriate option.

How do I apply for a residency?

Applications are accepted on a rolling basis, with no application fee. Please send us your preferred dates, a link to your portfolio, a short introduction to your practice and information about the type of residency you are interested in. We will get back to you to discuss availability and the next steps.

Do I need to submit a portfolio?

It’s not required but it’s preferable that applicants provide a link to their portfolio, together with some information about their artistic practice and previous printmaking experience. This helps us understand your work and make sure that PigPrints is a good fit for your project.

How long can I stay at PigPrints?

Residencies are available from one week onwards. The maximum duration depends on the type of residency, your project and studio availability. If you have specific dates or a longer project in mind, please contact us.

Is accommodation included in the residency?

Accommodation is included in the 2026 residency programme. From January 2027, accommodation will no longer be included in the standard residency fee. We can, however, provide recommendations and help you find suitable accommodation nearby.

Can I come with a partner or another artist?

Yes. Partners and collaborators are welcome, subject to availability and prior agreement. Working partners can join the residency at a reduced rate, while non-working partners may also stay at a reduced rate.

You mentioned offering emergency residencies for artists facing financial difficulties. How does it work, and how can I apply?

We know that not every artist can afford residency fees, especially during difficult personal or financial times. If you’re in this situation, let us know and we’ll see what we can do. We can normally offer a one-week residency, while meals, travel to and from Milan, and non-basic printing materials remain the artist’s responsibility. Emergency residencies are also subject to portfolio review.

Do residents have 24/7 access to the studio?

Yes. Residents have 24/7 access to the printmaking workshop during their stay. The studio is a shared working environment, and other artists may be working in the space during daytime hours.

How many artists work in the studio at the same time?

We keep the workshop intentionally small, with a maximum of three artists working at the same time. This allows us to maintain a calm, friendly and productive environment and to give residents enough space to focus on their work.

What happens if I need to cancel my residency?

A 40% deposit is required to confirm your residency dates and is non-refundable. If you are unable to attend, you may reschedule your residency to a later date, subject to availability. Please contact us as soon as possible if your plans change.

PigPrints specialises in intaglio and relief printing. The studio is equipped for techniques including etching, aquatint, drypoint, woodcut and linocut. If you have a specific technique or project in mind, please contact us before your residency.

Can I do screen printing or lithography at PigPrints?

No. Our facilities are primarily designed for intaglio and relief printing. If you are unsure whether your technique can be accommodated, feel free to contact us and we will be happy to advise you.

Are printing materials available at the studio?

Yes. Basic tools and studio equipment are available to residents. Paper, copper and zinc plates, inks and other consumable materials can be purchased separately at cost.

Can I bring my own tools and materials?

Absolutely. You are welcome to bring any specialist tools or materials that are important for your practice. We recommend letting us know in advance if you need something particularly specific.

WORKSHOPS & SERVICES

Do you offer printmaking workshops?

Yes. PigPrints offers workshops and individual tuition for different levels of experience, from beginners to more advanced artists. Workshops can be arranged around specific techniques or projects.

Do you offer contract printing and editioning?

Yes. PigPrints works with artists, galleries, publishers and other organisations on contract printing and editioning projects. Depending on the project, we can assist with different stages of production, from plate preparation to printing and editioning.

Can I buy artwork from PigPrints?

Yes. PigPrints sells original works by contemporary artists, including prints produced at the studio. If you are interested in a particular artwork you see in our online shop, please contact us for availability, pricing and shipping information.

What payments do you accept?

PayPal (you can use all major credit cards), Revolut or bank transfer.

How are artworks shipped?

Depending on their size and format, artworks are normally shipped either flat or rolled in a protective tube. Shipping costs are calculated separately and confirmed before the purchase is completed.
